Game On!
The Sony PlayStation 4 (PS4) is the fastest selling console in history with 250,000 consoles sold on its first day. The rush was so great that it was virtually impossible to get hold of a console on the day. In the first two weeks Sony had sold over 2.1 million PS4 consoles. The most recent update shows that Sony has sold over 6.4 million PS4 units, that’s nearly double the XBOX ONE, which has sold only 4.2 million consoles to date. Why has the PS4 been so successful?
We feel one of the reasons for this success is the fantastic specifications of the PlayStation 4. Power plays a huge part and Sony have installed a semi-custom 8 - 64 CPU into the console. This means that gamers will receive better game play, a must when competing with rivals like Xbox one. Its storage (500 GB) means gamers can save more games, music and videos. Also the PS4 doubles as a blue ray player. The controller is a dual shock 4 input, the manufacturer is Foxconn. Sony has took the gaming nation to the next level, it’s now 8th generation, and the graphics range from 420p to 1080p. Finally, the PlayStation 4 has been in the news for amazing ventilation, nobody wants overheating to ruin their game play.
The PS4 has an incredible ventilation system which consists of a fan in the centre which draws the cool air from hundreds of tiny vents, takes it to the centre and contains the air and blows it out its rear vents. The vents are secretly hidden in the side slits of the consoles and the air is slowly taken so the console is almost silent and it keeps the system cool in the process. Since the system blows it out slowly during play it means that the console is super-efficient at keeping it cool so it doesn’t overheat. The rear vents are very well hidden and some of them are very small so it does not affect the wires. At the back as well as an AC port for the Power and HDMI cable port as well. The reason why it’s so good is so it doesn’t over heat while you play your great Video Games.
For the PlayStation 4 there are a variety of amazing games to purchase and play. Here are our top five games available for PlayStation 4. Killzone Shadowfall is a science fiction (FPS) developed by Guerrilla Games and published by Sony Computer Entertainment it’s a war between two races. The second one, Watch Dogs, is an upcoming open world action-adventure video game developed by Ubisoft Montreal and published by Ubisoft. It is due for release worldwide on May 27 2014 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. This game is about Aiden Pierce, a hacker who is getting revenge after his daughter was killed. The third game is Battlefield 4, it’s a first person shooter video game developed by Swedish video game developer EA Digital Illusions. The incredible series Call of Duty is our fourth choice with the COD Ghosts, a 2013 first-person shooter video game developed by Infinity Ward. Finally the last game, Knack, is a video game published by Sony Computer Entertainment and developed by Japan Studio in cooperation with game director Mark Cerny for the PlayStation 4. This is a platform ‘beat em up’ game in the style of crash bandicoot. These are just a few of the games we enjoy playing in our spare time. Some of us would like to pursue a job in gaming, but what would this entail?
We had the opportunity to interview Matt Price, Functional Test Lead at Sony, and put some questions to him. Matt told us that the day to day job of a games tester entailed trying to ‘break the game’, to find faults in the programme and to ensure that the gameplay customers receive is exactly what developers wanted. We also asked how we could get involved in games testing and we discovered that often developers create game balancing sessions to understand how their customers enjoy the games they play. We also found out we could get involved in voluntary testing via gaming forums. A job in games testing requires problem solving skills and a passion and enthusiasm for the gaming industry. Being a games tester could also lead to jobs in test engineering and production. Some of the most successful games Matt has been involved in testing include The Last of Us and Killzone Shadow Fall.
